Steak ‘n Shake Credit Bitcoin Sales Increases 11% QOQ


US fast food chain steak ‘n Shake tilted its hat to Bitcoiner after reporting a quarterly increase in the same store sales of 10.7% in the second quarter.

“Bitcoin was a game changer,” Steak’N Shake posted on X on Friday, contributing to Bitcoiner since May 16th, when fast food chains began accepting Bitcoin (BTC) as payment.

Solid growth suggests that merchants’ Bitcoin payments may still be alive in the US. In the US, Bitcoin is mostly treated as an investment, unlike developed countries, which are used more frequently in daily trading.

Steak’N Shake’s 10.7% sales growth outperforms its rivals

The sales growth of the same store at Steak’N Shake will be the highest among America’s top fast food chains in the quarter.

Jonathan Maze’s X-Post, editor-in-chief of restaurant Business Magazine on Friday, shows the range of US fast food chains such as McDonald’s, Domino’s and Taco Bell, reporting sales growth for the store ranging from -7.1% to 6.1%.

Fast food chains began accepting Bitcoin as payments on May 16th, in all locations permitted by law, including France, Monaco and Spain, in addition to the United States.

The change said cryptocurrency payments will be available to more than 100 million customers.

Steak ‘n Shake realized that it had an immediate impact on Bitcoin adoption

About two weeks after the first day, Dan Edwards, Chief Operating Officer of Steak’N Shake, said Bitcoin had saved 50% on processing costs.

“This means that Bitcoin is a victory for our customers, a victory as a merchant, a victory in the Bitcoin community,” Edwards said at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in late May.

He noted that Steak N’Shake accounted for 0.2% of all Bitcoin transactions on the first day.

Bitcoin adoption came after nearly 230 stores closed

The number of US Steak’n Shake Stores has dropped from a peak of 628 in 2018 to 397 as of May 28, 2025.

Florida has around 20% of all steak ‘n shake stores in the US, with the most steak’n shake stores.
