Researchers present bold ideas for AI at MIT Generated AI Impact Consortium Kick-Off Event | MIT News



The MIT Generic AI Impact Consortium (MGAIC), launched in February this year, is a presidential initiative led by MIT’s Bureau of Innovation and Strategy, managed by the MIT Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing, issued a proposal call, invited researchers from across MIT to submit ideas for researching higher AI models.

The call received 180 submissions from nearly 250 faculty members across all five schools and universities at MIT. The overwhelming response across the lab exemplifies the growing interest in AI, following the launch of MIT Generation AI Week, which calls for impact paper. Fifty-five proposals were chosen for MGAIC’s first seed grant, and some more were chosen to be funded by members of the consortium’s founding company.

Over 30 fundraisers submitted proposals to the MIT community at the kickoff event on May 13th. Anantha P. Chandrakasan, Chief Innovation and Strategy Director and Head of the Consortium, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, welcomed the participants and thanked the consortium’s founding industry members.

“The incredible response to the call for proposals is an incredible testament to the energy and creativity that MGAIC has set in MIT. We are particularly grateful to the founding members who helped this support and vision to promote this effort,” adds Chandrakasan. “One of the most noteworthy things about MGAIC is that this is truly a cross-intertum beetle initiative. The faculties and universities from all five schools have worked together to implement it.”

Vivek F. Farias, Professor at The Patrick J. McGovern (1959) MIT Sloan Management School of Management and Co-Faculty Director, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the MIT Institute of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (CSAIL), appears in the afternoon of a presentation on the weight reduction of five minuts.

The highlights of the presentation are:

An “Open Data Set for AI-Driven Tutors and Early Literacy Education” published by research scientist Ola Ozernov-Palchik at the McGovern Institute for Brain Research proposed refinement of AI-Tutors to potentially reduce literacy disparities for PK-7 students.

“Development of Jam_bots: Real-time Collaboration Agent for Live Human Music Improvisation,” Anna Fan, assistant professor of music and assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science, and Joe Paradiso, Joe Paradiso, Joe Paradiso, Alexander W. Drey Foods (1954) Professor of Media Arts and Science to foster the science of media arts and science to promote the science of media arts and science.

“Genius: Generating Intelligence for Urban Sustainability” was published by Nohan Biomi, a postdoctoral student at the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative and a research assistant at the Urban Metabolism Group.

Georgia Perakis, Dean of John C. Head III (Temporary), Professor of Business Administration and Operational Management, Operational Research and Statistics at the School of Business Administration.

“This is just the beginning,” he continued. “We are at the forefront of historical moments. MIT has the opportunity and responsibility to shape the future of excellence, generative AI with excellence.”
