The US government is increasing the national debt at an alarming rate.
The nation’s debt exploded to more than $38.513 trillion on January 26, according to new data from the Treasury Department.
This number represents an increase of more than $132,987 million in just one month.
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon warned that the pace of US borrowing is unsustainable in an interview with David Rubenstein in 2026 US Business State.
“I call it geopolitics and deficits. I call it like tectonic plates. They are difficult. They are moving. They may crash. We don’t know. And we don’t know when. So this is not a 2026 problem. But this year’s deficit is almost $2 trillion. Total debt is (38) trillion dollars…
That’s not sustainable. It doesn’t work out in the end. I don’t know when that will be.
Dimon said the United States must find a way to significantly grow its economy. Otherwise, your ballooning debt situation may get out of hand.
The best anecdote is growth. So if you just model something, growth will make up for it. I always tell people, good policy is free. We already spend $800 billion on K-12. Stopping people from making something is (not) free. It creates jobs and it creates productivity. So there is time to get the policies right and grow the economy. And we have to start making other choices too. ”
