Hesperides University, a private online university based in Spain’s Canary Islands, has launched a new ground-breaking program: the world’s first Bitcoin Master’s degree.
This is a fully online graduate degree focused solely on Bitcoin, its technology, economics, impact on society, and even philosophy. While other universities typically combine Bitcoin with large “crypto” or blockchain courses, Hesperides has created a program focused solely on Bitcoin.
The university says the program is an important step toward recognizing Bitcoin as a serious topic worthy of academic study. Program Director Kristina Mazankova explained why this is important:
“Bitcoin deserves an academic space. For years, universities have treated Bitcoin as a side topic, lumped in with speculation and short-lived trends. This program stands out. It is a declaration that Bitcoin is a revolutionary technology and deserves serious academic attention as a tool for human freedom.”
The Bitcoin Master’s Program is the world’s first English-language graduate program focused solely on Bitcoin. Hesperides College wants to provide a structured, high-quality way for people to deeply learn about Bitcoin, not just as a digital asset, but as a technology with the potential to transform finance and society.
This program is designed for professionals, entrepreneurs, and researchers who want a solid and systematic understanding of the Bitcoin ecosystem.
The program focuses on core Bitcoin subjects such as monetary theory, cryptography, energy utilization, economics, philosophy, journalism, and real-world applications.
Students study a combination of academic coursework and practical training. They work on real-life cases, research projects, and practical exercises. The courses are reportedly taught by experts and experts who are actively involved in the global Bitcoin community.

Hesperides University says the master’s degree reflects its mission to support independent thought and intellectual freedom.
Gabriel Calzada Alvarez, president of the university, said: “Bitcoin Masters embodies our vision of an independent education rooted in intellectual freedom. We want to create a space where people can explore, question, and collaborate about Bitcoin with an open mind and without ideological bias.”
The curriculum clearly articulates this goal. Students will take the following courses:

- Bitcoin economic principle
- Comparison of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies
- Law and tax topics

- Encryption and security
- Journalism, Communication and Public Policy
- A company focused on business development and Bitcoin
The master’s degree also includes a final thesis, representing 60 ECTS credits. Scholarships and corporate sponsorships that include full or partial tuition assistance are available.
The new program is 100% online and accessible to students wherever they are. Registration will open in January 2026, and those interested can register early on the university’s website. The program is built with flexible scheduling to help working adults manage both work and school.

Program Director Kristyna Mazankova brings extensive experience in the Bitcoin industry. She previously worked in technology and corporate communications, leading communications at SatoshiLabs and as Head of PR at BTC Inc.
