Devcon, the Ethereum community’s annual global gathering for builders, November 3-6, 2026 at JIO World Center, Mumbai, India.
While this Devcon 8 update is not a complete vision, it is useful for organizers and broader ecosystem planning. We will share more information about the program, tracks and participation in the coming months.
Why India, why Mumbai?
India was chosen as the next venue based on the size and rapid growth of its developer ecosystem, increasing local adoption, and strong grassroots Ethereum community.
- India has over 17 million developers on GitHub
- Becomes the largest source of new crypto developers since 2023
- Leading the world in the adoption of cryptocurrencies for two consecutive years
- Ethereum-centric activity across universities, meetups, hackathons, and community groups continues to grow rapidly
India is also home to a strong ecosystem with projects that have formed the Ethereum community over the years, such as ETHMumbai, Devfolio, and Polygon. For a deeper overview of the ecosystem, we recommend reading this ecosystem overview by Geodework.
Mumbai is a major global city with a deep technology base, providing strong access for participants from across India and Asia. Hosting Devcon 8 here strengthens the existing momentum and lowers the barrier for new builders to connect with contributors around the world.
Devcon 8 will be held from November 3 to 6, 2026, a few days before Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, on November 8. We invite you to come to Devcon and experience this important cultural and religious festival.
What is Devcon?
Devcon is a twice-yearly gathering for the global Ethereum community organized by the Ethereum Foundation to build and use decentralized systems.
It is as follows:
- Intensive introduction for new Ethereum explorers
- A global reunion of long-time contributors
- A place where developers, researchers, community organizers, students, and creators come together
- A conference for builders of all kinds
Devcon has always had a strong technical core (it’s DEVeloper CONference, after all) and that still is. However, Ethereum’s applications extend far beyond protocol engineering to the digital economy, research, the arts, community engagement, governance, public goods, and more.
Devcon is not just for developers. It’s aimed at engineers, designers, researchers, infrastructure operators, educators, community organizers, social economists, artists, and anyone using Ethereum to build systems that improve the world.
Because Ethereum can have real and immediate impact in different regions of the world, we rotate Devcon across regions.
What to expect in Mumbai

Event organizers should strongly consider scheduling activities around the Devcon date. This is to avoid duplication with the Devcon program and reduce the impact of potentially problematic traffic congestion.
