Today, former President Donald Trump has expressed strong support for Bitcoin and the broader crypto industry, calling it a key American asset that the US must continue to control.
“So I’m becoming a fan of cryptography and for me it’s the industry,” Trump said. “I see it as industry, I’m the president and if we didn’t have it, China or someone else would do that, but perhaps it is China.”
Trump highlighted Bitcoin’s economic resilience and strategic importance, pointing to its relative strength during the recent market slump.
“In fact, when the stock market fell recently, Crypto and Bitcoin and all of them became much less than anyone else as a group,” he said. “And we’ve created a very strong industry, which is far more important than what we invest in.”
The former president spoke about his personal involvement with Bitcoin before launching the 2024 presidential campaign. “I was involved in it a few years ago, but before this, before the second term, I decided to run…I was in Bitcoin, but I didn’t know if I’d do that for the third time,” he emphasized, referring to his decision to run again.
Trump also suggested that Bitcoin is becoming more mainstream. “It’s the job it created, and I’ve become more and more aware that you pay Bitcoin. So people say it puts a lot of pressure from the dollar. And that’s great for our country, so I don’t care about investing, you know.”
He concluded by claiming that under his leadership the US has built an important industry in Bitcoin and crypto. “I have kids and they invest in a variety of things, they believe it, but I am the president and what I did is building an industry that is very important.
