A US healthcare company is in a settlement with the victim of a cybersecurity attack that compromised patients’ personally identifying information.
Kentucky-based Norton Healthcare has reached a settlement regarding a cybersecurity incident that occurred in May 2023 and may have exposed patient and former patient information, according to new court filings.
Norton Healthcare has set aside $11 million in a settlement fund and will reimburse each person affected by the breach $2,500.
“On October 21, 2025, the parties participated in mediation…Ultimately, this action was settled in mediation and the parties agreed to resolve the action on a worldwide, class-wide basis for a common fund of $11,000,000…
The Settlement Fund shall pay all valid claims for out-of-pocket losses up to a limit of two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500.00) per claimant. ”
According to a class action lawsuit filed against the healthcare company, Norton failed to maintain proper security protocols and failed to notify victims in a timely manner.
“Norton’s failure to take appropriate steps to protect the (personal health information) of Plaintiffs and Proposed Class Members, including failing to implement industry standards for data security and adequately training its employees on cybersecurity protocols, led to the data breach.
Although Norton discovered the data breach on or about May 9, 2023, Defendants continue to fail to notify and alert affected individuals, Norton’s current and former patients and employees, of the data breach. ”
