Coinbase’s Armstrong and Ripple’s Garlinghouse join familiar crypto executives on U.S. CFTC advisory group

The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which is set to become the crypto market’s primary regulator, has named some of the crypto sector’s most prominent executives to its newly created Innovation Advisory Board, including the CEOs of Coinbase, Ripple, Robinhood, and Uniswap Labs.

To fill some of the 35-member committee that will guide the U.S. derivatives regulator toward the needs of companies at the center of financial innovation, the agency was repurposing its previous CEO Council, which was created late last year before CFTC Chairman Mike Selig took over.

“By bringing together participants from all corners of the market, IAC will be a great asset to the European Commission as it works to modernize rules and regulations for innovation today and tomorrow,” Selig said in a statement.

The initial group already included members such as Gemini CEO Tyler Winklevoss, Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi, and Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan, but the larger committee added several more crypto CEOs and top executives from FanDuel and DraftKings. In addition, advisors will include leaders from a number of traditional companies and organizations, including the CEOs of Nasdaq, CME Group, Cboe Global Markets, the Futures Industry Association (FIA), and the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA).

The 35 other new names are Chris Dixon of a16z Crypto, Anatoly Yakovenko of Solana Labs, Peter Mintzberg of Grayscale, Sergey Nazarov of Chainlink Labs, and Alana Palmedo of Paradigm. Tom Farley, CEO of Bullish, CoinDesk’s parent company, is also a member.

Mr. Selig recently officially joined the SEC’s Project Crypto to announce the cryptocurrency challenge his agency is pursuing in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
