EF’s Academic Office team is proud to announce the launch of the inaugural PhD Fellowship Program, a pioneering initiative aimed at strengthening and expanding the frontiers of Ethereum-related academic research by supporting Ethereum-related academic research led by PhD students.

The scope of this round includes research broadly relevant to students interested in pursuing research at the intersection of institutional design, corporate governance, political economy, decentralized AI, and Ethereum. We are seeking proposals along the RFP topics listed on our web page.
We encourage researchers to use these RFPs as a starting point to think creatively about how their research can generate meaningful insights and contribute to the Ethereum ecosystem.
Application essentials
- The program awards seven to eight fellowships, each with a one-year stipend of US$24,000.
- The deadline for proposals is April 1, 2026 at 23:59 AoE.
- All applicants must be actively enrolled in a doctoral program at a university or academic institution.
- The project must produce formal academic research that will be presented at a venue such as a conference or journal.
- Research results must be open access with free and permissive licenses.
- All applications require a proposal in PDF format.
- Proposals must be in English.
- Your proposal will follow this template.
- The proposal must include the applicant’s profile.
- Proposals must include a link to a public repository or work.
- Applications are selected for funding on a case-by-case basis. You can submit multiple applications as long as each proposal is unique and meets the requirements of the linked RFP item.
- Decisions will be sent via email six weeks after the application deadline.
