NVIDIA and Microsoft Drive AI Breakthroughs from Cloud to PC
May 20, 2025 — In a landmark collaboration, NVIDIA and Microsoft have unveiled major AI advancements bridging the cloud and PC divide. From cutting-edge data center infrastructure to powerful inferencing on Windows 11, the two tech giants are reshaping the future of agentic AI applications, as announced at the Microsoft Build 2025 event.
Microsoft Discovery Accelerates Scientific Research
A key highlight was Microsoft Discovery, a new AI platform designed to revolutionize research. Built with NVIDIA’s ALCHEMI NIM for chemical simulations and BioNeMo NIM for drug discovery, the platform drastically reduces research timelines. For example, it enabled the discovery of a coolant prototype in under 200 hours—a task that would normally take months or years.
Azure Scales Up with GB200 AI Racks
Microsoft also announced the integration of NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 systems into Azure. Each rack supports up to 72 Blackwell GPUs, offering up to 35x inference throughput over prior models. Powered by NVLink interconnects and Quantum InfiniBand networking, these systems scale effortlessly for high-demand AI workloads.
Smarter AI on Azure AI Foundry
The Azure AI Foundry is receiving major upgrades, incorporating NVIDIA Llama Nemotron models and updated BioNeMo NIM services. These tools enhance reasoning, decision-making, and domain-specific AI performance, improving accuracy by up to 20% and increasing inference speed fivefold. Applications in digital biology, drug design, and medical imaging are expected to benefit immensely.
Generative AI Comes to Windows 11
On the PC side, Windows 11 is being supercharged with NVIDIA-powered AI. A new inferencing stack built with TensorRT is now available for over 100 million RTX AI PCs, enabling high-performance generative AI and accelerating developer tools and creative applications.
This move empowers users to experience seamless, on-device AI without relying entirely on the cloud.
