Check out our latest interview with Janchapek, co-founder of Braiins Bitcoin Mining Ecosystem:
Bitcoin News: When was your first moment of passion for Bitcoin? Where were you and will you make the moment memorable?
January: The moment I became passionate about Bitcoin came back in 2011 when I first met Marek Palatinus (Slash). I was running a small sailing trip in Croatia and Slash told me how I run a Bitcoin mining pool using GPUs stacked in vegetable boxes.
I wish I had been in the Bitcoin ecosystem at the time, but it would take another two years before I took over the pool in April 2013.
Bitcoin News: What do you interpret as a core philosophy of Bitcoin? How is it best to regularly embody this spirit?
January: Bitcoin’s core philosophy is to provide a decentralized, unreliable, unauthorized payment system that fixes the current unbroken, inefficient financial system. Bitcoin offers hard money to the masses. It’s a game changer.
Bitcoin News: How do you measure success in a particular Bitcoin niche? Which specific factors contribute most to achieving this metric?
January: Like any business, success is measured by revenue and our overall perception of the company within the mining industry. You are always looking at the number of installed devices that are running Brainus OS or managed by Brainus Manager.
Bitcoin News: Where is the greatest potential for innovation within the Bitcoin space?
January: I still believe the Western Hemisphere lacks a competitive ASIC that serves as a offset to the dominant players from the East.
Bitcoin News: Do you think you’re a Bitcoin maximalist? If yes, why? If no, why?
January: Yes, there’s no second best. At the same time, I am not trying to force this opinion on others.
Bitcoin News: What lessons from the “early” of Bitcoin should know new entrants?
January: No guarantee is guaranteed. You can be attacked at any time. Design your work in an unauthorized, unreliable way.
Bitcoin News: Does the global nature of Bitcoin have a positive or negative impact on the Bitcoin niche you are manipulating?
January: If we consider Bitcoin mining tools as a niche, we believe that the global nature of Bitcoin has a great advantage. This allows you to expand your business in many geographical directions. It’s literally. Each region has unique characteristics that also provide additional opportunities.
Bitcoin News: What are the most impactful events on your 2025 roadmap? What is the reason?
January: We will expand our R&D efforts and unveil ASIC test chips while we are looking for partners.
Bitcoin News: What advice would you give fresh Bitcoiners, aiming to leave their mark in the ecosystem?
January: Start by solving problems you personally face and finding ways to improve your experience within the ecosystem. If it works for you, it’s possible that others may find it worth it too.
For example, I was tired of implementing workarounds for various firmware issues on server-side mining machines. So we have built our own firmware that not only solves these issues directly, but also improves efficiency.
Bitcoin News: When Bitcoin reaches global adoption, how do you want to remember its contribution to Bitcoin’s history?
January: On a personal level, I would like to remember as the “man” who ultimately unlocked the complexity of the S9’s ASIC boost feature and ultimately became the first aftermarket firmware Braiins OS.
We also hope that it will be mentioned in the context of updating completely unstable and outdated mining protocols.
As for Brainens, we hope that our legacy is a legacy of global leaders. This played a key role in shaping the mining ecosystem into true industry standards.
Bitcoin News: If you could go back in time and ask Satoshi one question, what would it be?
January: Would you consider changing the NonCE size to 128 bits to simplify the design of future ASIC-based machines?
